La constipation se définit comme l’émission peu fréquente de fèces excessivement sèches ou dures. Elle s’accompagne fréquemment d’une dyschésie (défécation douloureuse ou difficile). Les causes de consti- pation sont reprises dans le Tableau 27.
La constipation opiniâtre se produit lorsque la constipation est prolongée. L’in- capacité à déféquer entraîne la formation de selles de plus en plus dures et de plus en plus sèches.
