La dilatación- torsión gástrica ( DTG) es un trastorno que aparece de forma brusca, dramática y a menu- do es mortal. En algunos estudios se ha publicado una mortalidad global de hasta un 30%. Los perros de más edad son los más afectados, aunque la DTG puede presentarse en perros de cualquier edad. El factor de riesgo más importante es la conformación corporal y, a este respecto, un tórax estrecho y pro- fundo está asociado a un riesgo mayor (Glickman et al., 1994).
