Il fegato è essenziale per la digestione, l’assorbimento, il metabolismo e lo stoccaggio della maggior parte dei principi nutritivi (Tabella 1). La malnutrizione è quindi un’evenienza comune nelle epatopatie e la mancanza di principi nutritivi può anche aggravarla (Center, 1999b; Laflamme, 1999). Il supporto nutrizionale è il caposaldo del trattamento dei cani con affezioni epatiche. È quindi indispensabile man- tenere lo status nutrizionale.
