Introduction
Existing literature characterizes feline high rise syndrome as a fall from the second floor or higher.1,2,3 This definition therefore often excludes cats that have fallen from the first floor, despite some studies having shown significant trauma even in this subpopulation.4 The original threshold of the second floor stems from the first paper on the subject published in 1976 by an American author.5
It is the author’s belief that differences in floor numbering conventions (i.e., ground vs. first, first vs. second, etc.) in the United States compared to Europe have caused a misinterpretation of the original paper’s definitions, which has been copied over by referencing authors throughout the years.
The author has retrospectively analysed high rise cases over a period of 10 years and will present them during the lecture. [...]
