Aims: To investigate the viewing patterns of expert veterinarians during the equine lameness examination.
Methods: Twenty-six experts in equine lameness examination from a range of different institutions across the UK participated in the study. Eyetracking data (Tobii T60) were recorded while participants evaluated videos of horses at the trot on a straight line and in a circle. Gaze data were then manually mapped onto 16 body regions of each horse. The investigated parameters included percentage viewing time for each region, similarity in viewing times between participants and frequency of switches between regions, all in relation to the veterinarian’s decision.
