It’s not often that life takes you exactly where you’d planned, and it’s the twists and turns along the way that make it interesting! So whilst at first glance my career has not followed a conventional path, everything I’ve done and everyone I have worked with along the way has given me invaluable experience of the needs, behaviours and motivations of those who care for horses. This instinctive understanding is vital for me to do my job well – helping me communicate with horse owners effectively every day. This talk takes a personal look back on my equine career, and hopefully will inspire delegates not to accept the ordinary in their own careers!
From crown to gown
After leaving De Montfort University in 1996 I was fortunate to work at some very high calibre yards, probably the most prestigious of those was Buckingham Palace, where I was yard manager for 3 years.
Having worked in the equine industry for many years, it seemed a natural progression to move into equine nursing. I had long wanted to become a vet nurse and after targeting my CV at several vet practices, I finally got a letter back asking me for interview.
