The recovery period
There is no definitive classification of this; here it is defined as the period of time following cessation of general anaesthesia until the horse is standing. Problems manifesting during recovery include:

  • Myopathy.

  • Long bone fracture and other orthopaedic injury.

  • Neuropathy.

  • Upper airway obstruction.

  • Spinal cord malacia.

  • Delayed recovery for other reasons, e.g. excessive sedation
