For the majority of veterinary graduates, a career in the equine charitable sector is not a consideration. A minority however, will wish to work in either a voluntary or salaried position within an equine charity. Careers in the equine charitable sector are varied and limited in number, with many opportunities to volunteer unpaid, but limited salaried positions.
Careers in the charitable sector provide fantastic opportunities for veterinary graduates to use not just their veterinary skills and expertise, but a myriad of other skill sets to improve the health, welfare and productivity of equids both in the UK and overseas.
Positions in animal welfare or equine charities whose programmes are largely overseas, usually involve opportunities to travel, experience different cultures and countries, and opportunities to increase veterinary knowledge and experience in areas and subjects not frequently used in the UK. [...]
