Aims: 1) To establish relative efficacy of Berenil®, Cymelarsan®and Samorin® in clinical cases of equine trypanosomiasis with respect to improvement in demeanour and packed cell volume (PCV) over a 2-week period following treatment. 2) To document immediate and subsequent adverse reactions relating to the administration of the drugs.
Methods: Owners were invited to present their horses and donkeys for a free health check or examination to address pre-existing concerns in 5 villages in the up river region of The Gambia. A history was taken from the owner including previous treatment for trypanosomiasis, presenting concerns and history of abortion or inability to conceive.
