Placentitis is the greatest cause of pregnancy loss in late gestation. Advances in diagnosing and treating placentitis have steadily contributed to fewer pregnancy losses. New information about the immunological response in mares with placentitis has provided evidence for effective treatments as well as target areas to develop rapid result diagnostic tests.
