Periodontal disease is a common finding in equine dentistry [1]. Primary periodontal disease associated with plaque formation is relatively uncommon. More commonly the disease is associated with trapping of food within the oral cavity, usually within the interproximal spaces [2]. Widening of interproximal spaces has been suggested as a possible treatment strategy.
