Minimally invasive transbuccal surgery was developed to allow for better access to difficult areas in the horse’s mouth and has many useful applications [1]. Most commonly it is used to extract fractured cheek teeth and tooth apical remnants or root fragments. Use of a cannula allows direct access with straight instruments to allow better orientation and access deeper into the alveolar sockets. It also allows for more direct pressure and force to be applied to break down periodontal ligament attachments. It is the technique of choice if oral extraction is not an option or is unsuccessful [2].
