The introduction of transrectal ultrasound for pregnancy evaluation has revolutionised the identification and management of twin pregnancies in mares. The rate of abortion due to twin pregnancies has dropped from an average of 20% [1] to 6% [2]. While improvements in management of twins are certainly notable, pregnancy loss as a result of missed twins is costly.
