Intra-articular analgesics (mepivicaine, lidocaine, bupivacaine) and intra-articular therapeutic agents (corticosteroids, polysulphated glycosaminoglycans [PSGAGs], hyaluronic acid derivatives) remain important aids in the diagnosis and treatment of acute synovitis and aid in the prevention of further degenerative articular changes [1–3].
