Cardiac murmurs are frequently found in horses. Careful auscultation allows one to differentiate physiological murmurs from pathological murmurs. Pathological murmurs are most frequently left-sided systolic or diastolic murmurs. The most commonly found right-sided murmur is a systolic murmur due to tricuspid regurgitation, which has no or only limited importance. For these reasons less attention is sometimes paid to auscultation on the right side of the thorax.
