Etiologie en epidemiologie
Borreliose (synoniem : ziekte van Lyme) is de meest voorkomende door teken overgebrachte ziekten in gematigde klimaatzones van het noordelijk halfrond (Rizzoli et al., 2011). Het betreft een multisystemische aandoening ten gevolge van de spirocheet Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato (sl), waarvan 18 verschillende subspecies bestaan, waarbij co-infectie van meerde soorten in dezelfde vector kan bestaan (Rizzoli et al., 2011).
