Ireland is currently experiencing its first outbreak of Equine Infectious Anaemia (EIA). The clinical manifestations have varied considerable and range from asymptomatic to acute disease and death. The initial source of the outbreak is believed to be contaminated plasma that was illegally imported from Italy for administration to foals for the prevention and control of Rhodococcus Equi associated disease.
