Le diagnostic précis d’une affection de l’épaule est parfois difficile à établir en pratique courante. Les principales lésions rencontrées concernent l’articulation scapulo-humérale, l’appareil bicipital, la scapula ou l’humérus. Le développement des techniques d’imagerie a permis d’identifier plusieurs entités pathologiques : ostéochondrose et arthropathie scapulo-humérale, tendinite et bursite bicipitale, fractures. La radiographie reste la technique d’imagerie la plus utilisée en pratique courante en première intention. Cependant, l’échographie, facilement réalisable sur le terrain, représente un complément parfait de la radiographie car elle permet d’identifier les lésions des tissus mous de l’épaule, notamment de l’appareil bicipital.
