Cases of Equine Infectious Anaemia have been seen in Ireland in 2006. It has been alleged that the disease originated with the importation of infected equine plasma from Italy, which was contaminated with EIA virus. This disease has been characterised by thrombocytopaenia, anaemia, band form neutrophilia, hypoalbuminaemia, and hepatic compromise as evidenced by elevations in GGT, Bilirubin and GLDH while the liver is still responsive, and falls in these hepatic parameters when the hepatic system begins to fail ...
