The upper airways (UA) are involved in the high prevalence of respiratory problems as a cause of poor performance. The advent of overground endoscopes has revolutionized our diagnosis of UA disorders in practice: we can now recreate “real-life” conditions and observe UA function in situations similar to work or competition. This has also allowed us to understand the importance of the effect of external factors such as head position, bit, rider and airway inflammation.
Medical management plays an important role in modulating these factors, and as such should be considered in the management of several upper airway conditions.
