    Introduction
    Quelque soit la discipline considérée, le jarret du cheval est soumis à de fortes contraintes biomécaniques, notamment lors des phases de propulsion, c’est pourquoi les affections de cette région sont fréquentes et variées (affections ostéo-chondrales juvéniles, lésions ostéo-articulaires de fatigue ou dégénératives, lésions traumatiques). L’anatomie relativement complexe du jarret, du fait de la multiplicité et de la diversité de ses constituants, nécessite pour l’évaluer dans son ensemble d’associer les examens radiographique et échographique. L’objectif de cette présentation est de présenter l’examen échographique.

    I. Indications de l’examen échographique du jarret :
    L’examen échographique du jarret est indiqué en complément de l’examen radiographique en cas :
    - d’engorgement ou de déformation locale de cette région ;
    - de douleur ou de diminution d’amplitude lors du test de flexion globale du postérieur ;
    - de boiterie améliorée par une anesthésie nerveuse jambière ou du nerf tibial et non supprimée par une anesthésie nerveuse métatarsienne proximale ;
    - de boiterie répondant à une anesthésie intra-articulaire tibio-talienne. ...
