Résumé : La définition de l’IAD et la distinction entre inflammation trachéale et pulmonaire est fondamentale car il a été prouvé qu’il existe peu de corrélation entre la cytologie d’un LT et d’un LBA chez un même cheval. Au vu de récents articles, il est admis de parler d’IAD pour désigner une inflammation des voies respiratoires profondes et de STI (Syndrome d’Inflammation Trachéale) pour désigner une inflammation de la trachée. Cette définition détermine la relation entre IAD et autres affections des voies respiratoires : affections des voies respiratoires supérieures, présence, qualité et quantité de mucus dans la trachée et hémorragie pulmonaire à l’exercice.
