La réaction des chevaux suite à une injection intracarotidienne accidentelle est fonction de:
- l’individu, il existe une grande variabilité d’un cheval à l’autre quant à la sévérité des signes pour une injection de la même molécule à la même dose (pas de réaction à des signes très violents et une mort subite)
- la nature de la solution injectée et la molécule, il apparaît que les solutions hydrosolubles comme la plupart des tranquilisants, sédatifs et anesthésiques (xylazine, détomidine, butorphanol, acépromazine, thiopental) sont mieux tolérées que les solutions visqueuses et les suspensions (solutions huileuses d’antibiotiques, d’anti-inflammatoires, de vitamines...)
- la présence d’une tranquilisation avant l’injection accidentelle, une étude (Gabell et coll.) a montré que l’adminsitration de promazine, parent de l’acépromazine 1 à 2 heures avant l’injection intracarotidienne réduisait voire supprimait les réactions. […]
