Deciding between intra- and extra-oral extraction techniques does not seem to be overly vexing, however in choosing between them the veterinarian has to balance risk and benefit. Choosing incorrectly may lead to prolonged professional frustration and client loss, despite adequate pre-operative discussions. This is exacerbated by the fact that veterinarians have a habit of being openly critical of their colleagues to the point that a case that is being managed appropriately (but with some well documented complications) moves to another veterinarian for ongoing care.
