The skeletal muscle sarcolemma contains monocarboxylate carriers, which transport lactate. Sarcolemmal permeability can be affected by free radicals formed in the horse during exercise; hence, flux and blood concentrations of lactate could be altered too. Feeding antioxidants helps prevent cellular damage. Objective: To evaluate the effect of selenium (Se) and vitamin E (E) supplementation on lactatemia in horses under moderate exercise.
Methods: The research was carried out in horses of the Mounted Police Unit of Mexico City.
