Résumé : Les trois voies actuelles pour tenter d’induire une « castration chimique réversible » des mammifères mâles sont : l’immunisation contre la GnRH (« vaccins anti-GnRH »), l’emploi en continue d’agonistes GnRH à fortes doses voire d’antagonistes GnRH ou l’administration en continue de progestagènes. Les agonistes et antagonistes GnRH ne semble pratiquement pas efficaces. L’immunisation vis à vis de la GnRH et les traitements progestatifs ne présentent aucune garantie ni d’efficacité, ni de réversibilité (avec une large variabilité individuelle). Actuellement, ce type de procédé ne peut se faire que sous la responsabilité du praticien car aucune molécule ne dispose d’une AMM pour cette indication chez l’étalon.
