Presenter: Shawna Cosgrove, LVT, CVT, VTS (ECC)
Summary: In this lecture, technicians will learn what shock is, and what processes occur with the body as a response to shock. We will cover the different types of shock and the different phases of shock as well as the effects within the body. The technician will also gain a good understanding of the process of oxygen delivery and tissue perfusion and how to maximize these in the patient in shock. We will also discuss how to recognize patients in shock and what the technician’s role is in initiating lifesaving interventions and treatments or these patients. We will cover therapies such as oxygen therapy, venous access and fluid resuscitation. Continued monitoring and nursing care for these patients will also be discussed.
