Summary: In this presentation, attendees will learn how to promptly recognize and appropriately treat common small animal reproductive emergencies. Conditions discussed will include dystocia, puerperal hypocalcemia, mastitis, pyometra, metritis, and abortion. Normal reproductive physiology will be reviewed, and used as a basis to discuss pathophysiology of these diseases. Detailed information on diagnosis and treatment will be provided, including an in-depth discussion of proper cesarean section and neonatal resuscitation techniques.
