Programme
Session 1: Understanding Joints and Diagnosing Joint Disease
This session will review joint biology and then set this in context to underpin how joint disease can be diagnosed in general practice
What you’ll learn:
- Understand joint tissues
- Understand the relationship between joint tissues
- Review and gain further insight in to radiology of joints
- Review the technique for synoviocentesis and grasp the principles of synovial fluid analysis
Session 2: Osteoarthritis
This session will bring delegates up to date with current thinking in osteoarthritis (OA). Models of OA will be presented to allow you to conceptualise this disease process to enhance your communication skills with clients and to inform your management decisions
What you’ll learn:
- Understand the process of OA
- Get insight in to how to stage OA in your clinics to guide your management protocols and to engage clients
- Understand, through case examples, how various modalities can be applied to manage OA
- Get up to date with surgical options and when to consider
Session 3: Inflammatory Arthritis
This session will address inflammatory joint diseases including infective arthritis and immune-mediated polyarthritis (IMPA). Although not everyday disorders, when they occur it is imperative that diagnostic and therapeutic decisions are made efficiently and correctly.

- Understand the aetiology of infective arthritis
- Understand the pathogenesis of IMPA
- Diagnostic algorithms for inflammatory joint disease
- Monitoring treatment – use of CRP
