Learning outcome
Over the past 5-10 years brachycephalic dogs have become among the most popular breeds in many countries including Australia, the USA and many European countries. Unfortunately, we have also seen an further exacerbation of the extreme brachycephaly, as well as many other health and welfare related issues. We have seen a significant increase in the health issues of the dogs and the public awareness of these issues. The costs of corrective surgery, where possible, the purchase price of the dogs, the difficulties of dealing with insurance companies for what are hereditary and congenital defects are ongoing problems.
Philip will also look at what is being done both in Australia and worldwide to try to improve the health and welfare of these dogs.
