Les pathogènes impliqués dans la pathologie respiratoire de la dinde sont des virus (RTI, ND, IAFP …), des bactéries (E.coli, ORT, Pasteurella, Riemerella , Bordetella et Mycoplasmes MG-MS), voire des contaminants fongiques (Aspergillus). Les signes cliniques vont de la toux aux sinusites. Les lésions vont des trachéites aux péricardites, pneumonies et aérosacculites. Les examens bactériologiques sont les examens de base nécessaires au diagnostic différentiel et il faut des techniques spécifiques pour isoler ORT. La bactériologie peut être adaptée pour obtenir un résultat d’orientation thérapeutique en moins de 24 H. Les outils de laboratoire complémentaires pour le diagnostic des mycoplasmoses sont la sérologie, la culture et la PCR. Les signes cliniques et lésionnels, le mode d’évolution de la maladie et les modalités de transmission sont autant d’éléments qui associés aux examens complémentaires permettront le diagnostic différentiel entre ces différentes affections.
