Summary: In this lecture we will review the basic anatomy and pathophysiology of the respiratory system and focus on the technician's role from the point of presentation through treatment, as well as the final outcome of respiratory emergencies. The lecture will focus on the technician's role in treating the respiratory patient. Participants will learn proper handling and approach to caring for these patients, different administration techniques of oxygen therapy, identification and treatment of some common respiratory emergencies as well as a review of arterial blood gas sampling and interpretation of the results. Technicians will leave having a better understanding on how to best care for these fragile patients, ultimately to aim for the best possible outcome for the patient.
