AO VET Masters Course - Limb Alignment-Small Animal
The AO VET Masters Course—Limb Alignment - Small Animal ( previously titled AOVET Masters Course on Advanced Osteotomy - Small Animal ) focuses on various osteotomy techniques based on the CORA principles that are performed in small animal surgical practice. Topics to be discussed include corrective osteotomy of angular limb deformity of the radius and ulna and femoral and tibial osteotomy for patellar luxation correction. This is a very interactive course that focuses on planning and execution of the correction of deformities that can be applied to any bone. The latest information about techniques for performing these procedures and expected outcomes will also be presented. Preoperative planning and other aspects of the decision-making process will be emphasized. Participants will have an opportunity to perform most of these procedures during the hands-on laboratory sessions. Participant interaction with the faculty is an important part of this program. Ample opportunity is provided in the practical labs as well as in the pre-planning sessions and the lectures to have your questions answered by some of the leading veterinary orthopedists in the world.
After the course, participants will be able to apply the principles and techniques they have learned to challenging orthopedic cases in their veterinary practice.
The AO VET Small Animal Basic Principles course is a prerequisite for the Master’s course since familiarity with instrumentation and techniques will be assumed.
Enrollment is open to Veterinary residents and practicing veterinarians.
Upon completion, participants should be able to:
- Plan various corrective osteotomies using the CORA principles
- Integrate the art and science of osteotomies into veterinary medicine, particularly as it pertains to small animals
- Apply osteotomy techniques into small animal surgical practice
- Discuss the importance of preoperative planning and other aspects of the clinical decision-making process as related to osteotomies in small animal surgery
