After spending 2 years in practice, Mark Senior returned to Liverpool to undertake a Home of Rest for Horses residency in equine anaesthesia and cardiology. Despite assuming that he would leave academia after his residency, Mark is still at Liverpool 20 years later, probably because he cannot think of a better place to be an equine anaesthetist/academic! Over this time, he obtained his Certificate in Veterinary Anaesthesia, his European Diploma in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia, and completed a PhD in endotoxaemia in horses. He is an RCVS recognised and European Specialist in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia. Mark is head of the equine anaesthesia service as well as being hospital director for the equine hospital at Leahurst. Mark’s main clinical research interests are in perioperative morbidity and mortality and inflammation. Mark was recently awarded a personal chair in equine anaesthesia.
