About
Michael Schramme qualified from the University of Ghent, Belgium, in 1985, and remained there as an assistant in Large Animal Surgery for 3 years. He moved to the Royal Veterinary College, University of London, as a Resident in Equine Surgery in 1988, and joined the equine surgery faculty as a Lecturer in 1991. He moved to the Centre for Equine Studies at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket as senior equine surgeon in 2000. In 2003 he relocated across the Atlantic and became visiting Assistant Professor in Large Animal Surgery at Cornell University in New York. In 2004 he was appointed Associate Professor of Equine Surgery at North Carolina State University. In July 2011, Dr. Schramme joined the Ecole Nationale Veterinaire de Lyon in France, as Professor in Equine Surgery.
Professor Schramme obtained the Certificate in Equine Orthopaedics in 1991, the Diploma of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons in 1994, the Diploma of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2011 and a PhD in equine rheumatology in 2000. He has an interest in all aspects of large animal surgery, lameness and diagnostic imaging with special emphasis on MRI. Professor Schramme is a member of the board of regents and treasurer of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons. He is also an ex-President of the European Society of Veterinary Orthopaedics and Traumatology.
