About
Dr. Katherine DeHaan's love of horses began from a very young age. She was born and raised in Southern Idaho and grew up riding Performance horses. From cutting to reining, from 4-H to high school rodeo, she did it all! Competing in a wide array of events taught her how important Veterinarians were in keeping her equine athletes performing at top levels. She was inspired by their level of care and compassion and couldn't wait to follow in their footsteps.
Dr. Kat attended Texas A&M University where she graduated with a B.S. in Animal Science. At Texas A&M, she was a member of the National Champion Stock Horse Team and was an Academic All-American member of the Horse Judging Team. She then went on to Colorado State University to attain her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. During her time in Colorado, she competed in NCHA events, making the Amateur Finals at the 2014 Western Nationals.
After school, Dr. Kat completed an Ambulatory/Field Care year-long internship at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute in Lexington, Kentucky. Here, she learned the ins and outs of Emergency Medicine, Reproduction, and General Care. She was part of the team responsible for the health and wellbeing of horses entered in the world-famous Keeneland sales, on the vet team for the 2016 Rolex Three Day Event Championships, vet team for the 2016 Road to the Horse, and official vet of the Cowboy Up for the Cure Rodeo. Further, she worked in some of the top Thoroughbred breeding sheds in the country, helping to maintain high standards of care for both mares and some of the top stallions in the racehorse industry. Hagyard Equine continues to play a major part in our practice; providing the highest levels of expertise in many areas of equine medicine and helping us stay up to date on the newest and best Equine therapies available today.
She then was an Associate Veterinarian at the racetracks of Southern California; Santa Anita, Del Mar, and Los Alamitos. It was there that she gained proficiency in Sports Medicine; from diagnosing lamenesses to treatment and rehabilitation therapies. From utilizing new medications to new treatments; she learned how to increase healing with better lasting effects in a shorter time period. Many top racehorses are helped daily by therapies provided by Equistride; shockwave, acupuncture, etc. and she is pleased to be able to offer them to her clients.
Dr. Kat enjoys spending time with family and friends, riding her Working Cowhorse mare; Lilly and playing with her 2 dogs; Buddy and Ellie Mae.
