Dr. Paul Dean is Board Certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS). After completing veterinary school he completed a three-year surgical residency, which included specific training, caseloads and research followed by rigorous testing administered by ACVS. This commitment to surgical excellence enables him to be called a surgical specialist.
After receiving his DVM from Texas A&M University in 1981, Dr. Dean completed a one-year internship and a three-year surgery residency-training program at The Ohio State University under the supervision of ACVS Diplomats. Dr. Dean also completed a Masters in Veterinary Clinical Science during his tenure at Ohio State. His surgical training and residency includes all domestic animal species. In fact, he even has experience with zoo animal medicine as a result of primary and referred surgery from the Columbus Zoo. Following Board Certification, Dr. Dean taught and performed surgery at Texas A&M University for four years before establishing his own surgical referral hospital in 1990. This commitment to training after veterinary school and successful completion of Board Certification in 1986 qualifies him as a specialist in veterinary surgery. Dr. Dean enjoys flying radio controlled (RC) airplanes and serving at his local church, where he and Gayle are involved in various ministries including discipleship, evangelism and missions. They have two daughters, Michelle and Rachel.
