John Dascanio is the Senior Associate Dean for Academic and Student Services and a Professor of Theriogenology at Texas Tech University. He is a diplomate of the American College of Theriogenology and the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, Equine Specialty. He grew up in Northwest Pennsylvania and worked on a Thoroughbred racetrack as a groom when in high school. He initially had the dream of being a mixed animal practitioner doing mostly horses and dairy cattle. He did not get in to veterinary school on his first try and had to have some perseverance to pursue his dream. His career has focused mostly on equine reproduction and he has held a number of faculty positions at veterinary schools in and out of the United States. He moved to the Panhandle in the fall of 2019 to help build the School of Veterinary Medicine with his wife, Linda, a small animal veterinary technician from a dairy farm background.
