If you are arriving at Charleroi, there is no train to Ghent, therefore you will have to take the bus from Charleroi to Ghent (the bus stops at the train station Gent Sint-Pieters in Ghent). From there you can take a taxi to your hotel or tram No. 1 to downtown Ghent. You can make reservations for the bus online (make reservations here). When you make your bus reservations, think about the return trip to Charleroi and make reservations for your return trip. Go to flibco.com to make your bus reservations.
Zaventem - Brussels International Airport
Once you have recovered your luggage, exit into the Arrivals Hall turn right and go downstairs to the train station (as you exit the baggage claim, turn right and go past the coffee shop "Java" towards the stairs and the elevators. Go down to the train station). Purchase your roundtrip ticket to Ghent Sint-Pieters station. For more information about train schedules, go to the SNCB train website. At the Ghent Sint-Pieters station either take a taxi or tram No. 1 to go downtown.
If you are leaving from Ghent to Brussels Airport on Friday after the meeting, please check the train schedules on line or (download the SNCB/NMBS app). On Friday afternoon, there will be a mini-bus shuttle available starting at 16h00 from the Merelbeke Campus to the train station in Merelbeke. From there you can take a train to the Brussels International Airport.
For those people that need to return to Ghent downtown, there will be a bus leaving campus at 17h15.
Weather in Ghent
The weather in Ghent in February can be wet, every once in a while foggy, and cold (it is winter after all!). Temperatures are up to 7°C (44°F). Bus Transportation from the Downtown Ghent to the Merelbeke Campus
On Thursday morning, the ESER bus will take participants from Sint Jakobskerk (Sint Jakobs church) in downtown Ghent to the Merelbeke Campus. The coordinates for the GPS are: 51.056134, 3.727885. The bus is from Selecta Cars. You do not need a ticket to get on the bus on Thursday morning. You can purchase your bus pass at the registration desk on Thursday morning at the conference. A bus pass costs €10.00 Euros per person (cash only please) and covers round-trips on Thursday (morning and evening) and Friday (morning and evening) from Ghent to Campus and back.
The bus will leave on Thursday morning at 7h45 sharp from Sint Jakobskerk (Sint Jakobs church). There is only one ESER bus service on Thursday morning, don't be late!
IF YOU MISS THE BUS: you will have to use public transportation with De Lijn (bus) that will take you directly to the Merelbeke Campus. View the time schedules and stops here. Or you can always take a taxi, ask at your hotel for help.
On Thursday evening, the ESER bus will take participants back to downtown Ghent. The bus will leave at the end of the reception (anticipated between 20h00 and 21h00). You will need a bus pass to get on the bus. Make sure to purchase your pass at the registration desk on Thursday morning (€10.00 Euros, cash only please). There are also regular public city bus services (de Lijn) that you can take at the end of the afternoon lectures.
On Friday morning, the ESER bus will leave at 7h45 from Sint Jakobskerk (Sint Jakobs church) to the Merelbeke Campus.

The Registration desk will be open on Thursday morning at 7h45. You will receive all your symposium documents at registration. If you plan to use the ESER bus to travel from the city center to Campus, make sure to purchase your bus pass (€10 Euros) at the registration desk.
Lunches will be served at the restaurant on Campus. There are warm and cold options as well as vegetarian options. Lunch is not included in the registration fee, you will have to pay separately and only cash is accepted, no bank cards or credit cards can be used. Make sure to bring cash money, there is no bank machine or ATM on Campus.
Parking in Ghent
If you are traveling by car, check with your hotel whether parking is available. There are public parkings in different locations in downtown Ghent: Kouter (Kouter, 9000 Gent), Sint Michiels (Sint-Michielsplein 8, 9000 Gent), Savanastraat (Savaanstraat 13, 9000 Gent), Zuid (Franklin Rooseveltlaan 3/A, 9000 Gent). There is free parking on campus 24h/7d.

Reception on Thursday Evening
After the day's sessions it is time to relax! Lectures will end at 17:30 (5:30 pm). Immediately after the end of the afternoon lectures, we will have an informal reception on campus. There will be a walking buffet, courtesy of our sponsors. Local beers and other delicacies provided by our sponsors will be available. The walking buffet will include a foodtruck distributing the typical "Belgian Frietjes" (fries) and other Belgian fried meat and cheese products. For dessert, a second foodtruck will serve Belgian waffles, pannenkoeken (crepes) and poffertjes (Dutch mini pancakes). There will also be other delicious local and international finger foods available for all tastes.
This will be the perfect place to talk to speakers and meet old and new friends. The reception will start at 17h30 at the same restaurant where we will have all our lunches and coffee breaks. The dress code is comfortable, come as you are!
