Date
Apr. 16-19, 2020

Location
Hilton Columbus at Easton, 3900 Chagrin Drive, Columbus, Ohio, USA 43219

Description
The AOVET Course - Principles in Equine Fracture Management will bring together the latest information and technique innovations on the internal fixation of equine fractures. Starting with the biologic and biomechanical properties of the internal fixation methods, the groundwork will be laid for understanding the concepts and techniques of internal fixation in equine surgery. Familiarity with the most current instrumentation will be established along with a step-by-step surgical technique review. Over six hours of laboratory hands-on sessions are provided to allow course participants to practice techniques with instruction from the faculty. Time for discussion and radiographic review of complicated cases will be provided. This course is intended to educate the equine surgeon on the latest techniques and instrumentation available for treatment of common fractures encountered in equine practice. Lab exercises will concentrate on the techniques of lag screw fixation of fractures. An introduction to plating techniques will be given as a prelude to the Equine Advanced Course. Participants are encouraged to bring digital images of HIPAA-compliant radiographs of problem cases to the Course. Instructions regarding the format for the images will be forwarded closer to the time of the course.
